How does CarbiGo track my weight trend?

See why the smoothed trend number matters more than today's scale reading.

Scale weight fluctuates daily based on water, food, hormones, and many other factors. CarbiGo uses a smoothing algorithm to show you your true weight trend β€” the direction you're actually heading β€” so you don't get discouraged by normal daily ups and downs.

How CarbiGo calculates weight trend

We use an exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) algorithm that:

  1. Weighs your recent measurements more heavily than older ones.

  2. Smooths out daily noise to show the true trend.

  3. Adapts quickly when your trend actually changes.

Example: If your scale shows 200, 199.5, 201, 200.5, 200 over five days, your trend might be 200.2 β€” showing a slow, steady decrease even though daily readings jump around.

Why this matters

  • It stops false hope: A day of 2-3 lb weight loss is usually water, not fat loss.

  • It prevents discouragement: A 1-2 lb jump (common with hormones, salt, or a big meal) won't make your trend spike.

  • It shows real progress: Over weeks, you'll see if you're truly moving toward your goal.

How to use it

  1. Go to your Progress tab to view your weight graph.

  2. Look at the smoothed trend line, not the individual daily points.

  3. Update your weight 1-2 times per week, or let your health app sync it automatically if connected.

  4. Check your trend every 2-4 weeks, not daily.

Good to know

  • Weight loss isn't linear β€” expect weeks of no change followed by drops.

  • If your trend hasn't moved in 3-4 weeks, consider adjusting your calorie target.

  • The trend is more reliable than any single weigh-in.
